Abstract

In modern painting, the golden mean, which can be used as a tool to balance the composition of a painting, is very important in terms of aesthetic balance, composition, and visual impact. Placing the major elements in a painting according to the golden mean creates a sense of balance and harmony that is pleasing to the eye. The geometric principles of the golden mean can increase the impact of a painting on the viewer and create a more attractive composition. On the other hand, a focal point close to the golden mean draws the viewer's eye more and helps to organize the image in an impressive way, which can enhance the aesthetic beauty of the painting and allow the viewer to focus on the attractive elements. The association of the golden mean with repeating forms and proportions can be used to create rhythm and repetition in painting. Objects or patterns placed according to the golden mean can give the viewer a visual sense of flow and order, which can make the painting dynamic and impressive. The golden mean can expand the boundaries of creativity by providing artists with a guideline for their compositions. Although Modernism moved away from the extensive use of the Golden Mean, geometry is very much present in many movements today. As seen in Constructivism, Suprematism, and De Stijl, clean lines and shapes in primary colours fill paintings and graphics. The Golden Mean is a mathematical proportion that can be found almost everywhere-in nature, architecture, painting, and music. Especially when applied to design, it creates an organic, balanced and aesthetically pleasing composition.
