Aims and Scope

Aims

Ulakbilge Journal of Social Sciences aims to publish original research in the social sciences and the arts, and review articles that critically assess the literature in these fields. The journal gives priority to work that is methodologically transparent, fully referenced, ethically sound and open to interdisciplinary perspectives. By publishing in Turkish, English and Russian, it seeks to make knowledge produced in Türkiye, the Turkic world and beyond available to everyone, free of charge and permanently.

Scope

The journal publishes original articles from all theoretical, historical, applied and interdisciplinary fields of the social sciences and the arts. Its main subject areas are:

  • Fine arts, design and music

Quantitative, qualitative and mixed-methods research, archival and documentary studies, field research, art and design research and theoretical studies all fall within its scope. Studies derived from graduate theses, or from conference papers whose full text has not been published, are considered provided that this is stated in the article.

The length and type of evaluation for each article type are given in the Author Guidelines. The journal also publishes editorials on the issue or the journal.

Readership

The journal addresses researchers, academic staff and graduate students in the social sciences and the arts, practitioners in culture, the arts, education and the public sector, and decision-makers who draw on research in these fields.

Languages

Articles may be written in Turkish, English or Russian. Every article has a title, abstract and keywords in Turkish and in English; Russian-language articles also have a title, abstract and keywords in Russian. For Turkish- and Russian-language articles submitted from October 2026 onwards, an Extended Abstract in English of 750–1,000 words is also required.

Outside the scope

  • Studies without a scholarly research question or theoretical framework
  • Studies that cannot be assessed because their method, data or sources are insufficiently reported
  • Work that has been published before or is under consideration by another journal
  • Opinion pieces, essays, memoirs or popular-science writing
  • Descriptions of works, exhibitions or events without critical analysis
