Phoebe Cummings: Çamur, Geçicilik, Performans
İngiliz seramik sanatçısı Phoebe Cummings’in seramik çamuru ile şekillendirdiği çalışmaları, geçici ve geri dönüştürülebilir bir yapıdadır. Seramik üretiminde temel bir aşama olan pişirimi gerçekleştirmeyen sanatçı, eserlerini oluşturmada benimsediği bu güncel yaklaşımın seramik sanatına etki ve katkıları açısından ele alınmaya değerdir. Bu çalışma kapsamında sanatçıyı daha iyi anlayabilmek adına; çamur kullanımı, üretim yöntemleri, eserin geçici ve geri dönüştürülebilir olması, performans ile olan bağı ve bir seramik sanatçısı olarak bu anlayışı benimsemesindeki temel etkenler açısından ele alınmıştır. Bu doğrultuda basılı kaynaklar, internet kaynakları, sanatçının web sitesi ve röportajları üzerinden ön araştırma yapıldıktan sonra sanatçı ile iletişime geçilerek çalışma yürütülmüştür. Sanatçı eserlerini davetli sanatçı (art-in-residence) olarak katıldığı müze ve galerilerde gerçekleştirmektedir. Halka açık alanlarda yaptığı çalışmalarda izleyici, sanatçının üretim sürecini izleme imkanına sahip olmaktadır. Bu yanı ile Cummings; atölyesinde üretim yapan sanatçı profilinden, müze ya da galeride üretim yapan sanatçı profiline bir örnektir. Sanatçının bir nevi performansa dönüşen üretim süreci, aynı zamanda eserin geri dönüştürülebilmesi açısından dikkat çekicidir. Cummings’in benimsediği üretim anlayışı, güncel sanatın dinamik yönünün seramik sanatına ve sanatçılarına yansıması olarak değerlendirilebilmektedir.

Abstract
The works shaped by British ceramic artist Phoebe Cummings ceramic clay are temporary and recyclable. The works that will realize the firing, which is a fundamental stage of ceramics, and this current presentation adopted in creating design are worth considering within the scope of their influence and participation in the art of ceramics. In order to better understand the artist within the scope of this study; usage of clay, production methods, ephemerality and the recyclable part of the works are discussed in terms of their connection with performance and the main factors in adopting this understanding as a ceramic artist. In this direction, the study was carried out by contacting the artist after preliminary research was carried out on printed sources, internet resources, the artist's website and interviews. The artist makes her works in museums and galleries, where she participates as an invited artist (art-in-residence). Her works which made in public spaces, the audience has the opportunity to watch the artist's production process. With this side, Cummings; she is an example of an artist profile producing in a museum or gallery from an artist profile producing in her workshop. It is the production process of planning, which turns into a kind of performance, and at the same time, aiming to be able to recycle the work is the target. The production approach adopted by Cummings can be evaluated as the reflection of the dynamic aspect of contemporary art to ceramic art and artists.
