Concept, Form and Identity Relationship in Ceramics

Abstract
In ceramics, the terms of concept, form and identity are different from each other. However, they are imperative pursuits in order for ceramics to transform into an artistic style. This situation is important in interdisciplinary approaches of postmodern art. The relationship between form and shape dates from prehistoric times up until today, being one of the methods used both in ceramics as an art and as a craft. Hence, in the intellectual foundations of art these terms can be insufficient in solitary. The relationship between concept, form and identity in contemporary art increase intellectual wealth in ceramic art too, as is the case in other disciplines. These days, in the postmodern process, there are worldwide political, cultural and economic changes in effect. Therefore, it is fundamental that artists can follow these changes up close and express it in contemporary art. These changes in contemporary art are considerable factors in terming ceramics as an art. However, confusing objects in art, craft and industrial production, and not being able to distinguish between them are a problem. Where there is craft, there is handmade mass production, where there are industrial objects there is industrial mass production. For ceramics to become an object of art, form must attain voice and identity.
