İsmayıl Hakkı Baltacıoğlu’nun Eğitim Yaklaşımı

19. yüzyılda yaşamış olan İsmayıl Hakkı Baltacıoğlu, Türk eğitim tarihinin önemli isimlerindendir. Osmanlı ve Cumhuriyet Dönemleri’nde hem ülkemizdeki hem Avrupa’daki eğitim sistemlerini incelemiş olması sebebiyle Baltacıoğlu’nun eğitime yönelik görüşleri önemli görülmektedir. “İsmayıl Hakkı Baltacıoğlu’nun eğitim yaklaşımı günümüz eğitimine ışık tutar mı?” sorusu araştırmanın problemini oluşturmaktadır. Baltacıoğlu, Cumhuriyet Dönemi tiyatrosunun önemli oyun yazarlarındandır. Baltacıoğlu’na göre eğitim bir öğretim işi değil bir yaşama biçimidir ve okulun görevi çocukları hayata hazırlamaktır. Bilgiyi sadece sunmanın yetmediğini ve onu çocuklara hayatın içinde kullanmayı öğretmenin önemli olduğunu düşünmektedir. Onun eğitim anlayışı “şahsiyet ilkesi”, “çevre ilkesi”, “çalışma ilkesi”, “verim ilkesi” ve “başlatma ilkesi” ilkelerine dayanmaktadır. Sadece teorik olan bir eğitim yerine işlevsel bir eğitimi savunur. Baltacıoğlu’nun düşüncelerinin günümüzde benimsenen yapılandırmacılık yaklaşımıyla benzer olduğu görülmektedir. Çok sayıda pedagoji, felsefe, sosyoloji, sanat ve edebiyat eseri bulunmaktadır.

İsmayıl Hakkı Baltacıoğlu, who lived in the 19th century, is one of the important names in the history of Turkish education. His understanding of education is based on the principles of "personality principle", "environment principle", "work principle", "productivity principle" and "initiation principle". He advocates a functional education rather than a purely theoretical education. It seems that Baltacıoğlu's thoughts are similar to the constructivism approach adopted today. There are many works of pedagogy, philosophy, sociology, art and literature.
