The article presents a modern economic colour triad (“white” economy – “grey” economy –“black” economy) from the point of view of linguistic innovations. It describes neologisms and their “situational” synonyms, as well as expressions that have not been included yet in the dictionaries (Deep Web, DarkNet, the shadow forum). The analysis of the material gained from Russian-speaking mass media shows that the shadow / “grey” segment of the modern economy is being reevaluated today. Negative attitude is replaced by stating the presence of certain advantages. Being a reflection of a worldwide globalization process, the types of the shadow economy are mirrored in all world languages.
