Both the era and the location that Francisco Goya, one of the leading names of the romanticism, painter and gravure artist, lived is strongly important in terms of forming of his art. It is thought that Goya’s works are important documents that give information relating to his era. Especially printing paintings of Goya, who reflects social facts of the era on a critical eye, are kind of proof of this.
Goya was not insensitive to social facts on his all printing courses and revealed his critical position on his works. Goya who is significant with his realist and critical style has followed a new style. On his printing paintings, he usually made stress on pain, torture, execution and destruction factors. It is inevitable that Goya’s gravures have to be reviewed in details and translated in order to have the striking reality to appear.
This study gathered under four headings Goya's print series examined the question of the printing sequence, construction purposes, the term within the framework of the social events and phenomena were explained. The names of these print series are: Caprichos, Disasters of War, Bullfights and Proverbs Series.
