Urban promotions establish a connection between the person and the city and take their place in the economic fields in terms of their contribution to tourism. Each city has its own identity. It is possible to protect this and transfer it to other generations with city promotions. Illustration and photography are two different visual communication techniques used in promotional products. The purpose of both design techniques is to arouse interest in people and to give information about the subject or object introduced. The emergence of successful products is possible with the use of both techniques but these two techniques differ in terms of transmitting emotions. Accordingly, the percentage of the success of advertising can vary between both of them. In the research, two design techniques were compared. In this comparison, similarities and differences between them were revealed. For the research, photographs were taken in Eskişehir and made drawings in the illustration technique on the cultural and historical centers of Eskişehir. At the same time, students’ opinions were taken at Sakarya University and these opinions were evaluated. As a result of the research, in the direction of the answers and explanations the effects of using photography and illustration techniques in promotional products on students were compared.
